This creative coalition between J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg feels like several movies we’ve seen before. A group of kids is making their own movie (be sure to stay thru the credits to see the result) and they happen to witness the escape of…something. It starts out with some fun interchanges and a promising plot, but there’s way too much pre-teen drama and not enough solid action. Some of the set pieces are impressive, but there’s nothing original or particularly exciting.
