The Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond is pleased to present Gravity & Other Myths in A Simple Space on Thursday, Oct. 20 and Friday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Alice Jepson Theatre.
Eschewing traditional circus and theater acts, the ensemble behind Gravity & Other Myths embraces a fusion of acrobatics in their high-flying, body-contorting performance A Simple Space, which features seven extraordinary circus performers and a live solo musician playing original music.
Formed in 2009 in Adelaide, Australia, this multi-award-winning contemporary circus troupe creates and directs their own performances, and travels the world touring at festivals and for corporate clients.
Their debut work, Freewall, received many awards including Best Circus at the 2010 Adelaide Fringe, Tour Ready at the 2011 Adelaide Fringe, along with both Best Circus and Best Emerging Circus/Physical Theatre Performer at the 2011 Melbourne Fringe.
The group premiered their second work A Simple Space in 2013 at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, and it won the weekly award for Best Circus and received a nomination for Best Circus Overall.
Of the circus troupe, TV Bomb declares, “Daredevil feats with the confetti and sequins stripped away leaving nothing in their place but sheer talent and truly astonishing skill.” And, “A total triumph, a riveting show of the most incredible physical feats,” writes The Guardian.
