After hearing concerns about entertainment from past Virginia Pride events, some of RVA’s leading female impersonators have gathered together to make sure this year is different.
“It’s one of the biggest draws we have, the entertainment,” said Michelle Livigne, Ms. Virginia Pride 2014, who has spearheaded the search for some of 2015 Virginia Pridefest’s entertainment. “People show up to Pride for three things: the people, the booths, or the entertainment. And 9 times out of 10, its the entertainment.”
Livigne remembered fondly one of her first Prides, back when Richmond’s Trailer Court headline the event. “They were all weirdos and they did something different,” she said. “They were the old gals, before this new generation came in… seeing all of them dressed so differently. It intrigued me and inspired me.”
Livigne said she hopes this year’s entertainment can also inspire future queens, and she thinks bringing some national or larger acts will help.
To fill the Ms. Piggy-bank, this Friday at Babe’s of Carytown will be the first in a series of shows hoping to bring something extra special this year.
All of the proceeds from Friday’s show will go straight to entertainment at 2015 Pride. The show starts promptly at 9PM and will be two-straight/gay-hours of entertainment.
“I want it to be diverse, I want it to appeal to everyone, but I don’t want to settle for someone’ just because,’” she said. “I need some excitement… We’re looking at a variety of Ru Paul’s girls.”
Entertainers include Millenium Snow, Alvion Davenport, Zakia Jemaceye, Deja Diamond, Fifi Fellacio, Noelia Bella & More
