Having just gotten the blessing of Ru Paul, it’s only a matter of time before LA’s AB SOTO ends up at the top of everyone’s summer playlist.
For those of you who haven’t heard it yet – turn up your speakers press play to what might be the most amazing and glitter-pink video you’ve ever seen.
Growing up as a gay latino boy in East LA, AB(Abraham) SOTO told the Huffington Post his music comes from his love of fashion and his interest in challenging homophobia however it might manifest. And the boy knows how to put on an outrageous visual performance too:
I explore queerness by challenging ideas and expressing my own personal story growing up as a gay Latin boy in East Los Angeles. My goal is to inspire others by showing the diversity of the more marginalized members of the gay community and bring them to a wider audience.
The new track, “Cha Cha Bitch” dropped yesterday as part of his third album, but this is not he first time he’s had a viral hit. Back in April, 2012, his song “Honey Boo Boo” exposed the world to his own brand of butch queen:
This ‘butch queen’ concept will resonate with any RPDR fan – and between SOTO’s outfits, dance moves, and tunes, it’s hard to find a better face for the Butch Queen movement.
And what exactly is a Butch Queen? Well the Urban Dictionary explains it as ”A gay male that is neither extremely feminine, nor extremely masculine and can easily portray both mannerisms,” and I always thought of it as fem with a beard willing to kick your ass.
And while all of that is great, I spent about 2 hours last night making these gifs because I love AB SOTO.
1 – Walk into the club like
2 – When they ask masc or fem
3 – When he say he’ll meet at the club but he don’t
4 – After like six drinks and you eye your future bae
