Legend of Korra ends with delightful hint at lead character’s same-sex pairing

Tyler Hammel | December 22, 2014

Nickelodeon’s fan-favorite series, The Legend of Korra, ended last week with an epic two-part series finale. The episode featured everything we’ve come to expect from this action packed series, but it did also feature one moment that turned many viewers, myself included, giddy.

For the uninitiated, The Legend of Korra follows the Nick original AvatarThe Last Airbender. The two shows exist in a universe where magic exists alongside man’s struggle to live peacefully together.

Those with powers are worshiped, feared, forced into hiding, or lead revolutions. Those without such power are often at odds with our heroes (or heroins).

The Last Airbender was simply one of the best animated shows released in the last decade, and it’s sequel – The Legend of Korra – followed suit and provided more insight into a world fans already loved.

This article is going to contain potential spoilers, so if you’re one of those whiney people here’s your last opportunity to stop reading. There is a mess of lore and story missing form this short explanation, but Korra’s finale was just too amazing to not write about.

It would seem that the Nickelodeon team behind LoK has all but confirmed the Korra/Asami pairing.

As the episode reaches its end, the two characters turn to each other and hold hands as they venture into the spirit world and the screen fades to credits.

That’s right, it certainly seems the pairing is canon, or at least as canon as an all-ages animated television show is willing to make it.

Korrasami fans rejoice.

There have been large portions of Korra fans who’ve been claiming there’s more to these two characters relationship than friendship for awhile but this is the closest thing to concrete proof. Yes it’s vague but there certainly seems to be more to indicate a romantic relationship than not.
