Amazing Actress and transgender advocate Laverne Cox is in a new video as part of Meredith Vieira’s Lives program. In the 6+ minute video, Cox discuss growing up trans, her college experience, and her favorite part of living in New York City (spoiler alert: it’s the men!) Take a look below:
There are a few things that stand out for me from this video:
The fact Cox was even interviewed is a huge step. Vieira’s Lives Program is “dedicated to bringing women of all ages, shapes, colors, and sizes together to share their stories and learn from each other.” Including a trans-woman into the mix shows the strides the T community has made in the eyes of major media outlets.
And Cox’s bluntness about her sexuality – so often when people enter the activism circle, their sexuality can enter the sidelines in the name of a more wholesome image. But Cox shrugs this off, saying “the best part of NYC are all the hot men, just walking around casually… I do not get hit on a lot in NYC. I get cat-called a lot, but that’s not the same as getting hit on.”
