Kanye, Drake, gender bent models, and more 2015 Fashion Month moments
The numerous Fashion Weeks held around the globe last month stood out for a number of reason – too many for any one website to list in a single post – but we’re gonna try anyway.
Here’s some of the best happenings from New York, London, Milan, Paris and everything in between.
Drake Drops on Friday the 13th:
Fashion month has always got to start with a bang, and this season it did with the little help of an unexpectedly-dropped mixtape from everyone’s favorite rap bae, Drake. This mixtape instantly became the soundtrack of everyone’s fashion week/every day life.
Kanye West x Adidas Presentation:
Kanye made his NYFW debut this season with his presentation of the Kanye West x Adidas Originals Fall 2015 collection. With the help of a crew like Beyonce and Jay Z, Kanye was able to stir a big media night, marking his name on fashion once more. #YeezySeason1
Alexander Wang Steps To A New Beat:
Alexander Wang surprised us all this season with another small venue for a show, but this time with heavy gothic-biker elements, steering clear of this general sports-driven aesthetic. But with a cult following like Wang’s, he’s sure to drive the pack to new iconic looks. Check out the Spring lookbook here
Proenza Schouler’s Boy Model:
Model Jelle Haen turned everyone’s heads this season at Proenza Schouler for being the first-ever male model to walk in the brand’s womenwear show. With his ultra-androgynous, neo-gothic look, he made for an instant topic of conversation for Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez’s Fall show.
Debut at Oscar de la Renta:
All eyes were on the house of Oscar de la Renta this season to see the first collection shown since the designer’s passing recently. Peter Copping designed a collection that elevated the brand to a new level while still remaining true to Oscar’s original goals and values for his woman.
Tom Ford in LA:
Tom Ford took his show across the country for Fall 2015 and presented his latest women’s collection to a room of mostly entertainment-industry leaders while the models walked down a catwalk of white rose petals. Many commented saying they enjoyed the location and prefer the shows to happen close to home, what with a busy celeb-lifestyle and all…
Rick Owens Beauty Details:
Rick Owens never fails to disappoint in the looks presented in his collections, and this season was no different with painted gold & silver foiled faces as beauty details for his models. This, paired with the amazing silhouettes and fabrications of the clothing, left for a breathtaking experience- a true artist at work.
Zoolander finale @ Valentino:
Let’s face it- sometimes fashion can get boring, and that’s why we need people like the one’s behind the casting of the Valentino show to remind us that fashion, contrary to popular opinion, is fun! Closing out the Fall 2015 runway show were none other than Derek Zoolander and Hansel, or more commonly known as Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson serving striking looks down the catwalk.
Karl Lagerfeld always has a big idea in his head that he can’t wait to share with the rest of the world every new season at Chanel, and this season was no different. As we step away from last season’s feminist march, this season the Chanel girl is in a typical Parisian-style café, having a look at the other girls and sharing some gossip over her coffee and pastries. Audience members were in for a treat (as always) with a full-operating restaurant formally named Brasserie Gabrielle. Lagerfeld stays putting the theatre in fashion.
Kanye show in LV:
Fashion month came in with a bang, and therefore must go out with one. And if we started with some fresh beats, we might as well end with some, too! Rapper, style-icon and every big designer’s best friend Kanye West closed out Paris Fashion Week with a private concert inside of the newly finished Foundation Louis Vuitton. Now Kanye, can we get that album drop next please?
In March, Australian artist Scott Marsh painted a humongous 20-foot mural in Sydney that featured Kanye West in a passionate lip-lock with himself. The image was based off a photo of West kissing his equally self-obsessed wife, Kim Kardashian. Now, the artist has destroyed his mural. The reason, he says, is that he received an [...]April 12, 2016
