The complicated life of gay activist-turned ex-gay advocate Michael Glatze is sure to elicit a number of responses depending on who you ask. Glatze founded a number of publications (Young Gay Americans, XY) aimed at supporting LGBTQ youth during the late 90s and early 00s.
He took on an activist role fighting for equality with the nonprofit group Young Gay Americans, but his research into faith lead a dramatic change. Before long he abandoned his equality work, married a woman, became a born again Christian and lived as an ex-gay therapy advocate.
In I AM MICHAEL. actor James Franco united with openly gay actor Zachary Quinto to tell the story of Glatze. Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk) executive produced the movie which premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival and dropped a trailer earlier this week. Check it out below:
I am Michael is set for a limited theatrical release with a world-wide digital release at the end of January.
