The fabulous Idina Menzel has been worth our attention since the late 90′s when she won a Tony for her performance in RENT. She rocketed to stardom after portraying Nancy in the 2007 Disney film Enchanted and being the voice of Queen Elsa in the 2013 Disney film Frozen. And she filled our hearts here in Richmond when she stopped at the Altria Theatre last summer.
And now she’s back with a new solo album, idina, which is sure to only further enchant us.
Check out her first single, “I See You,” which she premiered live on Facebook yesterday:
“This is one of the most personal, introspective albums I’ve ever made,” Menzel said, noting how grateful she’s been to play incredible and memorable characters. She said this record aims to give her a voice for herself and reflect on the trials and tribulations associated with her new level of success.
“Songwriting and recording are such an outlet for me to get honest with myself through music. That’s why it felt right to call it ‘idina.‘ It’s also why it felt so right to announce the record live on Facebook – where I could talk directly to my fans and perform a new song for them live from the city I love.”
This new record is her first since the holiday themed October 2014 release of Holiday Wishes, a Christmas album produced by Grammy Award-winner Walter Afanasieff (Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey).
There’s no mention of a tour yet, but lets hope this amazing songstress makes a return to RVA before too long.
