HRBOR and Equality Virginia team up for Hampton Roads first LGBTQ business exp
Today in the Hampton roads area, the Hampton Roads Business Out Reach and Equality Virginia are joining forces for the Equality Means Business Expo. The event aims to connect the LGBTQ community with business leaders in the hopes of learning more about one another.
“HRBOR is an affiliate chamber of the national gay and lesbian chamber,” said Geneva Perry, the president of HRBOR. “We are made up of over 200 business owners, both LGBT and ally businesses.”
The equality business expo is a campaign and pledge that encourages business to be non-discriminatory towards the LGBT community. Proudly sponsoring the event is the Hampton Roads Convention and Embassy Suites, both are members of HRBOR as well.
Perry said there isn’t always a lot of talking about the LGBT community and its interaction with local businesses, so an event like this is very much needed.
“There are my many LGBT businesses and allies that feel like the LGBT community should be inclusive,” she said. “There is an incredible brand loyalty from the LGBT community if they know a business doesn’t discriminate and they will use their resources to help a company.”
HRBOR’s main goal is to help provide their partners businesses to grow so events like this successfully fulfill that mission.
This is the first time ever HRBOR has hosted the Equality Business Expo, and they hope the expo will provide as a showcase for businesses and partners of HRBOR to demonstrate what they can offer not only to LBGT community, but also to everyone.
When going to an event like this, everyone who puts effort into learning and breaking out of their comfort zone will come out with something new.
People may find out about an allied business partner of HRBOR that can use the help of some people from the LBGT community.
“I feel like people will come out of this event encouraged,” Perry said. ”I want people to come out of this by gaining new business opportunities.”
If you’re in the area be sure to definitely stop by the expo. The expo will be taking place on the second floor of the Hampton Roads Convention Center beginning at 5:00pm and ending at 8:00pm.
HRBOR members are free entry, however, if you’re a guest you must pay $20.
