For the uninformed, Florence Welch and her band Florence and the Machine are a Grammy award winning act that regularly manages to bring me to my feet while uncontrollably crying. And Final Fantasy, poised to release its 15th full game (man, there’s a lot of debate on that, but lets go with ’15th official FF series video game’ and not fight about it) and the series also usually brings me to tears.
And during a massive FF announcement event last night, a new trailer for the game premiered along with a new track recorded by Welch specifically for the game. Check it out in the trailer below, it starts around the half way mark (WHEN TITAN SHOWS UP!)
It appears Welch wasn’t a huge FF or even video game fan, but she heard a radio show that focused on classical music in video games and she fell in love with the idea of working in the medium. Check out the video below where she breaks down some of her thought process behind the track. Either way, the arpeggio that floats in the quieter parts is the most amazing thing I’ve heard in years.
“It’s wonderful to be part of Final Fantasy 15,” she said. “I always saw Final Fantasy as mythical, beautiful and epic. So I thought wouldn’t it be wonderful if a piece of music I was part of could be part of that.”
