FKA Twigs is an artist in a world of her own – creatively, spiritually and probably physically. She’s made her mark sonically with her unique blend of electronic and R&B sounds, following in the footsteps of folks like Bjork thanks to help from producers like Arca.
And over the summer, Twigs took to twitter while in the US and announced she’d host a free dance class in Lithuanian Hall, near the heart of Baltimore’s most impoverished neighborhoods.
“Over the past couple of years, Baltimore has always seemed to be in the news for really sad and tragic things,” the 28-year-old British artist explains. “When I was thinking about doing a dance project, the obvious places would be LA or New York but I thought why not go to a place that obviously has so much soul and so much amazing energy? You’ll be able to connect with them rather than being another artist that is passing through.”
Sure enough the event was a huge success with folks coming from miles away to get the chance to learn the performer’s moves. Check out the trailer for the video below:
