Benedict Cumberbatch will take the silver screen as famed WW2 code breaker, mathematician, inventor and victim of anti-homosexuality laws Alan Turing.
Turing played a key role in developing a system to break Nazi communication codes, and the work he did lead to the creation of many modern computer tools, making him one of the fathers of computer science.
Time Magazine called him one of the most important people of the last century, saying “everyone who taps at a keyboard, opening a spreadsheet or a word-processing program, is working on an incarnation of a Turing machine.”
At the age of 39, Turing was chemically castrated when his private life as a gay man was revealed to police. He was charged with gross indecency and given the option of chemical treatment or prison. About two years later, Turing was found dead in his apartment after taking his own life with a cyanide-laced apple.
Lets see if Hollywood talks about Turing’s secret and about a Government which turned their back on a genius and war hero.
