When the UK dance-pop band Bloc Party announced a departure from their (second) indefinite hiatus last summer, we were pretty pumped.
At their prime, Bloc Party reigned when Euro dance music had hit a commercial peak – remixes from Boyz Noise and Justice, and the success of bands like LCD Sound System paved the way for this UK group to make waves.
Back in 2013, off their first hiatus, they dropped the particularly newsworthy track “Get Ratchet” which sounded like you’d imagine – awesome:
“Ratchet” was featured on their The Nextwave Sessions EP released that year. Honestly I didn’t keep up with it much, but the single was dope as hell and made heavy rotation in my Saturday nights for some time.
Either way, Bloc Party suffered under the terrible foot of dub-step (as did most dance music from 2012-2014).
But as that movement faded, Bloc Party – Kele Okereke (vocals, guitar), Russell Lissack (guitar), Justin Harris(bass) and Louise Bartle (drums) – hasn’t stopped trying to revive themselves on dance floors around the world.
Yes, the lineup has changed again, much to the dismay of some fans, but they’re back with a new album, single and tour – check it out below:
Dig it? “The Love Within,” off their new record HYMNS (available now here), hasn’t stood out for us too much, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess this show will be nuts when they come to The National on May 18th.
