If there’s any positive that will come out of Trump being President for the next four years it probably lies in the protest music created by some of our favorite artists.
That’s where ANOHNI and Coco Rosie come in.
ANOHNI, the British vocalist formerly known as Antony of Antony and the Johnsons, Hercules and Love Affair and other amazingly weird and gender bending projects, started her transition last year and is now back. She dropped a record last year (that we some how missed entirely) called HOPELESSNESS. She dropped a single that is both beautiful and haunting and available here.
Cocorosie, the US-born freak-folk duo that got famous making incredibly weird low-fi bedroom recordings in the mid-00s, has continued to release work with less fanfare as of late, but its still very much worth your attention.
The two groups have united for a new single called “Smoke ‘em Out” which is a direct call to action against Donald Trump. Check it out below:
“Today we share a new song to inspire the weary-disappointed hearts of so many crest-fallen citizens,” reads a statement released with the video. It appears Cocorosie has started working on a new album but they wanted to get this new track out “a means of participation during these turbulent yet invigorating times.”
They refered to ANOHNI as a “future feminist” and invited a mob of women and children armed with forks and knives to over take the White House.
“In the wake of this unnatural disaster, we feel a call to rise, shout, and burn the house down,” said the band. “The future is female.”
