Patriotism is coming back into fashion in a big way this year. There are several options to making this Independence Day a stylish one.
Girls have several fun options – one of course is the American stars and stripes.
Retail websites like NastyGal.com are offering several flag-themed tops varying from oversized boxy tees to fitted leotards worn under a pair of classic denim shorts.
A great pair of American flag shorts (pictured) are available and when paired with a clean white top, look about as American as you can get. It’s a fun step away from the expected. Thanks to Lady GaGa’s “Telephone” video, a little Americana can be as cutting edge as you want it to be!
Another option is going the more subtle route. With navy nautical stripes so popular right now they are an easy find. Pair a striped top with denim shorts or a nautical striped dress and you are in business. Accessories are what make this holiday appropriate. Try a fun red necklace or earrings for a little splash of color to keep with the theme.
One of my favorite options for the fourth is white with colored accessories. White is such a great summer color and a crisp white stands out in any crowd. Take a white dress and pair it with a red belt and blue earrings and you are set. The key to these looks is not trying to overdo the theming. If the outfit is complete with two of the red, white, and blue colors, it is completely fine! A pair of cropped jeans and a cropped tied shirt like the cold shoulder tie blouse pictured below. This look is great for watching fireworks late at night when it is a little breezy. Just make sure to avoid the ketchup and mustard.
Men should look to American Apparel for fourth of July ideas.
Men should make it simple with chambray shorts in blue or red to go with the theme, paired with a white or striped oversized v-neck tee or button up with some great sunglasses. Depending on the event and location flip flops, toms, or boat shoes can be acceptable. Keep it simple and classic and you will be sure to turn heads on the 4th!
