If you’re looking for a fun night involving mistaken identity, comedic characters and the setting of an age of old, look no further than Richmond Shakespeare’s performance of “Twelfth Night.”

As part of the annual Richmond Shakespeare Festival, historic Agecroft Hall is turned into the country of Illyria – home to our cast of characters. Viola is a shipwrecked young girl (played by Laurel Maughn) who disguises herself as a man named “Cersario” and falls in love with Orsino, the Duke of Illyria (played by Andrew Ballard), who is in turn in love with the Countess Olivia (played by Katrinah Carol Lewis). After delivering a message to the Countess of the Duke’s love, Cesario learns that Olivia has instead fallen in love with him.

The energy of the cast is by far the best in any production this summer. They are running around the place, shouting at the top of their lungs and other physical comedy onstage (all while reciting Shakepearean verbiage)

Foster Soloman stands out as a superb performer with his portrayal of Sir Toby, a jovial, usually drunk, schemer. His scenes opposite David Janosik’s Sir Andrew were some of the most memorable in the play.
