Groups Announce “Don’t Hate, Legislate” Rally

Several organizations have joined forces in a call to action for non-discrimination against LGBT Virginians on Wednesday, April 21 at 10 a.m. at the Bell Tower in Capital Square.  These groups include the Gay Community Center of Richmond, Equality Virginia, the Virginia Organizing Project, People of Faith for Equality in Virginia, GLSEN, the LGBT Caucus of the Democratic Party, Log Cabin Republicans of Virginia and others.

Delegate Adam Ebbin wrote in an e-mail this week to his constituents:

Cuccinelli has told Virginia’s colleges and universities that they must stop protecting LGBT students and staff with non-discrimination policies. He hides behind convoluted and false legal contortions–but make no mistake-a bigot is a bigot is a bigot!

Cuccinelli has filed multiple lawsuits against the Federal Government to stop clean air regulations and health care for the uninsured. In a time of budgetary crisis do we want to waste taxpayer dollars wasted on his tea party lawsuits?

On Sunday, April 18 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the GCCR, 1407 Sherwood Avenue, hosts a sign making party and provides materials to prepare for the Wednesday event.  In a joint statement, the groups hope this “Don’t Hate, Legislate” rally sends a message to Virginia’s legislators and administration that Virginians will not rest until there is a law that prohibits workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.
