According to the website of anti-homosexual propagandist Fred Phelps and Westboro Baptist Church, a team of picketers will be making their way through Richmond on Tuesday, March 2.  The picketing schedule posted on GodHatesFags.com begins the day at the Virginia Holocaust Museum.  Anti-Semitic descriptions of each event accompany the calendar with stops at the University of Richmond Hillel at the JCC, and the Jerusalem Connection.

The last Richmond stop on the schedule is Hermitage High School in Henrico County which is accompanied by the following description:

WBC needs to come and show the little brutes what you all have failed to show them – OBEY GOD! Proverbs 1:8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: Proverbs 4:1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. Proverbs 8:33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. Proverbs 19:20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end. Proverbs 19:27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge. Jeremiah 17:23 But they obeyed not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, nor receive instruction. The only instruction these poor, no-nothing kids have ever received are lies, lies and more lies. They literally begin to moan and wail when they see and hear any little bit of truth because of the poison of the adults in their lives. It is a sick scene, but also marvelous because our God doeth all things well, and we must see the faces to know Jesus Christ will return shortly. Also to be satisfied, having our senses exercised by these events, satisfied I say that these parents will actually be doing the infants a favor if they just go ahead and eat them instead of doing to them what they have done to these pre-teens and teens in this nation. AMEN!

Phelps is widely known for his anti-gay protests and blames terrorism and disaster on homosexuality.  He started Westboro Baptist Church in 1955 in Topeka, Kansas.

If folks want to see the Virginia protest schedule without giving hits to the bigots, it’s available at http://virginiaagainsthate.blogspot.com/ . You can also check out the facebook page for those organizing against Phelps et al – http://bit.ly/d6ypr7 .

I’m not sure, but I’m guessing the reason WBC is protesting at Hermitage High is that there’s a GSA at the school.

I can’t even put into clean words how disgusting these people are. These parents might as well eat their infants???? Because they’re raising their raising their kids to have a sense of mind, and be open?

    By the way christians…..God judges….you don’t.

These people do not represent all Christians. Christians know God judges, not man. Please remember that these people are misusing scripture and religion to promote their agenda and that people that know Christ do not act this way.

We just got word that tonight’s People of Faith for Equality meeting is open to the public. The group meets at 5:30 at the Central Virginia Food Bank to discuss the possibility of a vigil. (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=central+virginia+food+bank&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&hl=en&hq=central+virginia+food+bank&hnear=Richmond,+VA&ll=37.568188,-77.456875&spn=0.008045,0.01708&t=h&z=16&iwloc=A)

Because the building is closed, someone will be at one of the entrances to let attendees in.

Wait, how does a church halfway across the country from here know anything to the effect of this? :

The only instruction these poor, no-nothing kids have ever received are lies, lies and more lies. They literally begin to moan and wail when they see and hear any little bit of truth because of the poison of the adults in their lives.

To clarify, it doesn’t sound like People of Faith for Equality is thinking about discussing a “protest” but rather something closer to a vigil.

Just to share: On May 18, 2009 the Phelps Posse descended on Key West (of course an iconic town for tolerance) to stage protests at Key West High School (where they have a Gay/Straight Student Allance,) the gates of the U.S. Navy Base, and B’nai Zion synagogue. In the weeks preceding their visit, meetings were held involving the City Commission, the KWPD, the school board, and various GLBT and church organizations to discuss just what was the best way to respond to the flood of hate when it hit. Consensus was reached that the most effective way to take away their oxygen was to totally ignore the protesters. And that’s exactly what happened. Nobody showed up to gawk or counter-demonstrate, and the local media did not even mention that the WBC hate-mongers had even been here until days after the event.
I was proud of my island for successfully depriving them of the confrontation they only seem to thrive on.
I won’t say that this approach is the best for every town or every situation where these vile Phelps disciples show up, but it sure worked here.

I am very happy that I was not raised to use any documents to justify hate speech. I am also happy that I was not raised to take statements allegedly made 100s of years ago in one context and then transcribed and translated in another and use them for the purpose of justifying bigotry, anti-semitism, homophobia and related hate-isms. It is really sad that others feel so justified. I for one will not be giving the group any of my attention but if I had a sign, it would say “I support your right to be a hateful bigot even though you look like an idiot”

The worst thing you can do to the WB members is insure they’re standing out in the cold wind, alone without an audience! They look to draw counterprotesters in and if you touch or throw something at them, sue you! Don’t be the gasoline on their fire. During events such as these, I see too much camera attention seeking zeal on both sides. Go to your job, stay home, but let the WB people make fools of themselves by themselves!
