We’re working with the folks at Gay Pride Virginia to give you a preview of some of the goods up for auction on April 26.  Starting Saturday at midnight, you can check GayRVA.com daily for the scoop on a new potential date.  For now, here’s the skinny on the event and some background on GPV:

This year’s proceeds will be used to fund GPV’s scholarship program and to support the annual Gay Pride Festival to be held in September.

The Date Auction is the primary method for raising funds for the scholarship program. This year, 25 to 30 men and women have volunteered to be auctioned off with a gift certificate from a local Richmond business.

Gay Pride Virginia was started in 2006 with the primary purpose of hosting the Pride festival in Richmond. The organization operates as a non profit 501 (c) 3 organization. The Pride festival had not been held for several years prior, and the original board members wanted to reinvigorate this important Richmond event.

In 2008, the board of directors of GPV launched a scholarship program with five $1,000 scholarships to help members of the GLBT community with the cost of post-high school education. The program’s goal is to help those active in the community, regardless of sexual orientation, with the cost of attending college, vocational/technical schools, or career training. The selection process focuses on the applicant’s involvement in the GLBT community.
